Action + Awareness
Youth Design believes that more students, teachers, parents, and counselors need to be made aware of design as a viable career opportunity. The professional design community has a responsibility to play an active role in mentoring and opening career pathways for the next generation, and Youth Design provides both this path and a place for engagement. The nation’s shifting demographics will be better served by more diverse leadership in the design fields and the creative economy workforce as a whole.

Action and outcomes sit at the center of what Youth Design stands for. We act and work together with Youth Designers to realize true impact and opportunities with design as the backdrop. Our work is not only about "design"—it is about supporting and nurturing creative young people, and helping them to succeed in life.
Awareness is where action begins. Youth Design does not live in one place. It is a vibrant, collaborative, and holistic Platform For Change that engages multiple groups of passionate people around a common thread. Youth Design provides opportunities, information, and access to tangible success in multiple dimensions: on the job, in the classroom, and in the world.
We also bring professional designers into the community to meet with young people across Boston to share ideas and work together. This is delivered through a robust, volunteer-based methodology where Youth Design-led conversations, presentations, and experiences between professional designers and urban youth are brought to community groups, youth organizations, Boston public school groups, and open-invitation events.
We encourage family members, public school educators, and civic leaders to participate in our programming and learn side by side with the Youth Designers. Our goal is to expand our new online community to provide long-term networking for our alumni and an active forum where young people can connect and support one another as they pursue creative careers.
In order to inspire and advocate for the diversification of the design industry and creative economy, Youth Design engages with leaders and professional firms in over 15 areas of design and related fields such as:
